SEND at Beckfoot Allerton

At Beckfoot Allerton, we recognise that some children may require additional support during their time with us.  We have several processes in place to enable pupils to get the right support at the right time so that they can make good progress and achieve well.

Whether or not your child has a SEND diagnosis from a paediatrician or other medical professional, we have designed ‘pathways’ of support that we put in place for your child so that all children can have their needs met, even though many may be awaiting a diagnosis which we recognise may take some time.     We have pathways for communication/interaction needs (including autism), behaviour/SEMH, cognition, language and learning.  This starts as universal provision, which is provided for all children through high quality teaching.  For those that need extra there are targeted and specialised strategies including interventions.  This means that we will put in additional support for your child and train the staff that work with them to enable your child to be successful.

All children on the SEND register will have an individual learning plan that is reviewed at least three times a year by their class teacher.  Your child will have targets set for them, provision put in place for them to meet these targets and extra support.  Roughly every 13 weeks, these targets are then reviewed and you will be invited to discuss these.

We work closely with many outside agencies such as speech and language therapists, play therapists, educational psychologists and the SCIL team and Bradford Local Authority.

Sometimes, you may just need to talk to myself as SENCo, so I have a weekly drop in where you can come and talk to me about any worries or concerns you might have.  We also have school nurse drop ins too.  You can also speak to the headteacher twice a week without an appointment.
