Wider Opportunities

Wider Opportunities

At Beckfoot Allerton Primary School we believe in providing all pupils with opportunities beyond classroom learning. We provide invaluable experiences which also develop personal and social skills. This broadens the pupil’s understanding of the world and the opportunities available to them.

Active Enrichment

Active enrichment is one of our weekly PE lessons. In these sessions, children take place in physical activity which is not traditional sport based. We have found that these sessions allow children to experience opportunities that they may not normally take part in, which creates a chance for children to find new activities that they really enjoy! The sessions are very child led, meaning that they can explore and play in new environments. It builds confidence and personal development within children, as natural leaders are formed within sessions. Children have fun and have the opportunity to share the experience with their peers, increasing the social element. Every half term we take the time to speak with the children about their favourite activities and make changes to the range of sessions on offer. Every class will experience each activity once per half term.

Our current offer includes:

  • Soft archery
  • Scooting
  • Dance
  • Tagiv8 – a tag rugby based learning activity
  • Freeplay – a collection of play resources and use of our new school trim trail
  • Pool noodle drumming

Specialist sessions

This academic year, we have also introduced specialist sessions, which are delivered by local coaches.

  • Physical Impact Kickboxing have worked with one class per term, towards their white belt in martial arts.
  • JU:MP dance deliver weekly street dance workshops with all classes
  • Get Out More – (outdoor education) are leading Forest School sessions with whole classes in the wildlife garden, working on den building, nature crafts and team problem solving.

Our active enrichment sessions take place every week. We have an alternative timetable with indoor activities so that children never miss out on these sessions. We value physical activity and wish to create lifelong active habits for our children.
