Today, Miss Blanchard talked about the Sikh festival of ‘Guru Nanak Gurpurab’ which is the birthday celebration of the founder of Sikhism – Guru Nanak. The celebration took place over the weekend. First, we learnt about how Guru Nanak Dev Ji began the Sikh religion 550 years ago and why he decided a new religion was necessary. We heard some children talk about their religion and what was important to them as Sikhs. Finally, we had a discussion about what everyone could learn from the Sikh religion – we agreed that we should all treat everyone equally and be kind to others, no matter their backgrounds or beliefs.
